Mark: One of those weeks

I know, my fail; it's a cat pic
It's that place, we've all been there, it's painfully frustrating, but we find no reason to leave. It's De-motivation Central, you know that place where you look at the half painted miniatures on your desk and all you can think is "I don't want to". Well I'm there, I have a Dark Emissary that I need to get done before for an online painting challenge I have entered, and the category I put forward for the ANZ wargamers March challenge was selected so I'm guessing I should paint something for it. The suggestion was for something big, like a monster or tank. So I'll paint a tank for my Imperial Guard, I should be able to most of it with the airbrush so it should be a little fun.

Now on to something I have done, I'm still smitten with Mordheim and have managed 8 games this week across 2 different campaigns, with more planned in the next week. I'm finding that a lot of the warbands created after the initial release of Mordheim are a little stronger than the Human Mercenaries I'm running. Lizardmen, Norse Explorers and Beastmen Raiders are all quite a bit tougher, and although it was released with the game Clan Eshin are quite nasty as well. On the plus side after getting your teeth kicked in you quite often come out with an underdog bonus which can give you some stellar hero's and units.

Through the week I've also managed to put together some terrain, but I need some textured paint before I can finish them off. I've also started modeling a Possessed warband and started planing Clan Eshin, Dwarf Treasure Hunters and Shadow Warriors Warbands.

Scary Things Stalk the Streets of
Mordheim

Hello all Travis here again, this week ive started my studies, so i have had to get painting in where i could. But thats okay cause ive got some Lizards done, another LotR model and a few games to report.

Mark and i have been playing Mordheim lately and ive been tenderising his Marienburgers with my Lizards. We played a few games with some different objectives but the combination of the Skinks speed and the Saurus' power have made for some tough games for Mark. I did take some shots of the games but they didn't turn out very good I'll have to try harder next time so for now I'll just settle with showing off my Mordheim Lizards.

Some call me.... Travis

Hi i am a friend of Mark -The Project Circle Blogger. After much discussion we decided to collaborate our efforts into a single blog, as to save space on the Interwebz...

From the message above you can see im a caring guy, i have 1 friend and don't like to waste digital space :)

But to be honest we're here to blog about gaming and modelling, things which i love and have been involved in for more than a decade.

As you might have noticed in Marks posts he has been occupied getting beat-up by a friend in various games. That would be me. I play Mordhiem, Blood Bowl, LotR and Warhammer as well as a few different little games here and there.

Okay with introductions over i move onto my recent modelling and painting.

Here is a model that needs no introduction (if you don't know what it is maybe you shouldn't be here)

You Shall Not Pass!

On to other things here are some snapshots of Mark and i playing Warhammer. Lizards vs Wood Elfs
The Reason Lizards win games

Stegadon mounts the Temple chasing some Dryads

Okay so that will do for my first post, i plan to post each Wednesday with updates on gaming endeavors.

I should have some Mordheim lizards to show next week.

Until then remember - Always accept the rolls of the dice as the Will of the Gods (unless you have a Team Re-roll)

Mark: A Ghoulish Good Time

I've started playing a Mordheim campaign through the week, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. So much so in fact I've gone into 100% Mordheim mode, pouring over the rule books, going over my armies too see what I can re-purpose, and building and painting new miniatures (the Ironblaster has once again found the back burner). I very quickly managed to put together an Undead warband. But after 5 games of sliding backwards I took my campaign mulligan, and restarted with a Marienburg warband, and things immediately started looking up. The fact they were multiplayer games so I my fledgling warband wasn't being focused on by a single stronger opponent and, that I had the under dog bonus for two games helped a great deal.Still didn't win a game though.

Ghouls

On the hobby side of things I assembled and painted 5 Ghouls, assembled my starting Marienburg warband plus additions, dug out and cleaned up the paint job on a Pit Fighter I assembled years ago for a Warhammer Quest campaign and started painting my Dark Emersary to use as a Warlock.

Marienburg WIP
I have a couple of extra miniatures to assemble to add to the Marienburg warband and I'm working on a Vampire that will better represent what I want to use on the table. And I'm thinking about getting one of the new plastic Necromancers as I'm finding that metal miniatures aren't the best choice for a game where you are constantly laying miniatures down and flipping them over on the table.

Off the Bench

I haven't had a great deal of time to spend at the paint table this week and the heat of a Queensland summer (still 30ºC at 10pm on a couple nights) has really sapped my enthusiasm in those times I had the chance. Even with the inconvenience of the heat I have managed to get a solid start on the Ogre and chariot body for my Ironblaster.

I have managed a little extra gaming this week as well, catching up with a friend who works shocking hours and is unable to join us at the local club. I managed to get the Ogres out for their first run at Blood Bowl since I've had them painted, and promptly lost. It seems that Ogres have some ball handling issues and I didn't see the worth of Snotlings until  it was too late, I think a rematch is in order here.

I also had my first real game of Lord of the Rings through the week and found it to be a much better game than I anticipated, with heroic actions, banner placement and the order fights are chosen being a far more tactical fair than I thought they would be. While I lost this game too (I'm seeing a trend here) I did learn a lot, and to be fair my opponent did have Legolas, Haldir and more than half his elves had bows. The fact that I deployed my Uruk-hi with Crossbows where they had no one to shoot at, and walked straight down the throat of elven shooting had nothing to do with it at all. The fact that I managed to roll snake eyes four times in a series of five fights in a single turn may have contributed to this as well.

Now I'm off to spend some money on yet another miniature game.

And just to help my ego a bit I managed to get a game of 40k against my long tome rival Trev from Triple Helix last weekend, and shock horror I managed a win in this one. And I don't care what he says, lining up my transports as a shield between his heavy weapons and the only scoring unit left on the table is a completely viable tactic. Especially when they're sitting on an objective.

Until next time .......

Dark Angels Librarian and Co

Over the last week I have built and painted a DA Librarian, while they are not the best choice in comparison to other any other psyker in the game. I've been getting hammered by my opponents psychic attacks, ( I hate Rune Priests) so I need the psychic hood for some defense.

I have also finished the Vindicare Assassin I have been painting for ANZ wargamers Jan/Feb Challenge

Until next time .......
